Pregnancy Ailments

The list seems to be endless!!! When I was pregnant if felt as if I had ever ailment in the book so you are not alone!

Breast tenderness - To help relieve your breasts ensure that you wear a good support bra from early on in your pregnancy. It can also help to wear a bra at night.

Backaches - backache can be relieved through massage, heat, rest and analgesics, such as Paracetamol. Also when it was really bad I wore a bump support.

Headaches - I used 4head which helps without taking tablets.

Piles - By eating plenty of high fibre foods your stools will remain soft, which will help you not to strain when passing a motion.

Bladder problems - Pelvic floor exercises, pelvic floor exercises and more pelvic floor exercises!

Indigestion and heartburn - To try and avoid heartburn, you should keep your meals small to prevent the stomach from becoming too full, instead opt for frequent nutritious snacks. Your midwife will also be able to prescribe gaviscon.

Morning Sickness - My tip for morning sickness would be travel sickness braclets that are available at most chemists.

Consitpation - To help prevent constipation you should ensure that you drink plenty of fluids - at least eight glasses of water every day. High fibre foods can also be helpful, such as bran and baked beans as they increase the bulk in your diet.

Thrush - Your doctor will prescribe you with either pessaries or a cream, which will eliminate the infection and stop the itching. Meanwhile, avoid wearing tight fitting trousers and choose underwear with a cotton gusset.

Carpel Tunnel Syndrome - CTS is pins and needles in the hands. This is caused by pressure on the nerve running along the wrist to the hand. I had this quite bad but was told there is nothing to help.

Braxton Hicks Contractions - a warm bath and drink plenty of water as they can be brought on by dehydration
